2024 Demos
Scythe UV-Max Table Sweep
I table-swept Scythe early in 2024 (besides Map30), a lot of these maxes were very fun to do. Highlights are Map09, Map21, and Map23.

Doom E1M7 UV-Max in 2:07
One of my best ILs ever, can definitely go lower. Proud to have a place in the history of this coveted IL UV-Max.
Ancient Aliens Pacifists
Some pacifist runs I did to help out with table-filling Ancient Aliens. I did Map09 and Map13 as well.
Chord Maxes
I wanted to check out the Chords for historical purposes. Spoiler alert: they are pretty cool! Chord 3 was my best demo here, and also the best map. I did all the Chords besides NG.
Speed of Doom D2All Max in 2:41:26
Never been more disappointed in a final demo submission, but this is the most significant demo I did this year I think. I had failed my goal of sub sum of IL times. Joshy seems happy about this run being done though, so that is something.
Doom II Map31 NoMo in 0:28.97
I wanted to really improve my movement this year, and this was a demo 4shock suggested as a good training zone for movement. This was pretty painful to get, 18 hours of effort within a week or so. Really proud of this demo, definitely helped level up my movement I think.
2024 Bingo Runs
I participated in 2024 Bingo, and it was pretty fun, although I actually found last year's competition more fun with better runs. My favorite run I did for this one is definitely Deus Vult II Map20 UV-Max, which was the 3rd demo I did for the wad this year (the maps are awesome btw).
Embed broke again btw.
Scythe Map31 NoMo in 0:23.51
My best nomo besides lv31o, I have ran this 4 separate times now, and serves as a bit of a mini litmus test for my movement. I compete with mhrz on this run.
Doom E3M7 UV-Max in 1:34
I expect k2 to demolish this time relatively soon, he has been grinding it on and off for a couple months now. Some RNG checks present, but very movement-heavy max.
Plutonia Map31 UV-Max in 2:56
Another movement-heavy max with RNG checks. This is a demo I competed with blue cultist on, who is mysteriously hoarding runs and listening in on conversations via incognito? Tough player to compete against.
Favorite Demos of 2024
Doom II Map01 Pacifist in 4 seconds - 4shock
What is there to say, definitely the best demo of the year, at minimum the best movement demo of the year. It already
has received a lot of attention, even from "major" outlets like Karl Jobst.
Asking a human to do more than this
is awfully difficult, over a hundred hours lobbed into a 5 second run is all you need to know about how difficult
this string of inputs is to perform.
Ultimate Doom E2M1 UV-Max in 1:16 - mhrz and k2
I forgot this happened, but a high-effort competition from mhrz and kuckkuck on an IL makes for a good final product.
I watched both demos and the pace remains pretty
consistent between the two, just some different approaches to areas that stuck out to me, mainly the secret
plasma room and how mhrz adds an extra SG on the pinky wall before teleporting.
I linked k2's video here because mhrz doesn't have a youtube upload of his demo, and the record is tied anyways
so there isn't really a gap in quality between the demos.
Ambrosia Map04 Pacifist in 6:38 - avey
I love this demo because it's a run of one of my best maps, and it showcases the ideal I had envisioned of the
platforming section, which is to run it without stopping. Besides looking awesome movement-wise, it also
illustrates how the maze setpiece raises from the abyss as you're climbing, and avey nearly syncs it up
perfectly for when they get to the top, actually beating the maze and being able to skip the fight and
cause some interesting geometry jank.
This run also is a bit of a testament to the progress I've made
with putting my maps in less of a vice grip in terms of controlling the player, which is something I have
been actively working on in the past 1.5 years; in my earlier days of mapping I would have ensured no cheese
or pacifist route is possible to avoid players skipping my fights. These types of runs on these types of
maps show everything I love about challenge maps and challenge demos.
Poogers Map24 UV-Max in 29:31 - avey
This is definitely one of the most important demos of the year I think, because poog24 was estimated
(mainly by me) to be the next rung up in challenge maxing. Although this run actually neuters the raw
skill intended to be required for maxing it, the ingenuity of the strats is really impressive, and
I hadn't thought of most of them when I had tried routing the map. It's still a very difficult run to
execute; the starting avj skip was a huge filter for attempts I imagine, the 2-shot on one of the cybers
is still there, and a minor error in any of the strategies used could lose the run.
This was really
a titan of a challenge max to fall, and I did not expect it to happen so soon.
Scythe Map30 Tyson in 4:50:36 - j4rio
sc30t had been attempted to be routed by a number of players before this run, and none had actually
been motivated enough by their route to get it done. Scythe is one of my favorite wads, and to have
one of the biggest challenge tysons fall to seal the tyson table for this wad is truly awesome. I
can't say I watched this at normal speed the entire time, but I can say that it was very nice (albeit
seemingly uninsane) strategies used to procedurally pick apart the map segment by segment.
J4rio favors
his evit29t more I think, and I won't doubt it's the better demo if j4rio says it is, but unfortunately
I just don't give a damn about eviternity yet.
Doom II Map23 UV-Max in 1:37 - mhrz
This run makes it on here because I had heard that looper's time on this map was beyond cooked, proceeded
to try and route it myself, and wasn't even getting close to matching Looper's time despite using rewinds.
So I wrote it off as another absurdly lucky Looper run and didn't think twice about it after.
But then mhrz
surfaced and blew me away by beating Looper's time. Apparently, he also had a 1:34 run that got ruined by
something, which is even crazier to me. Even though mhrz proved that it's a runnable max...I still wouldn't
touch this max with a 10 foot pole.
Plutonia Map13 Pacifist in 0:27 - kvo
This run has so much notoriety from kvo's original effort on it, that this previously unremarkable Plutonia
map in my mind now sticks out for the runs kvo has done on it. Billa's assistance on this run through
providing a setup is just ridiculous, kvo just walks through the northglide so easily that I nearly
feel some disembodied frustration knowing the struggle of north glides, especially given how kvo put
in such an insane effort originally doing it the hard way.
The movement isn't perfect in this run,
but it's an important development in the run history for this map.
Sunlust Map29 Pacifist in 0:20 - bredd
Good god man. Just watch the demo, that's absolute hell to perform an unguided northglide here. The 2nd
glide was fast too. Just absolutely criminial that this was a .00, so close to 19...well we all know
the difference between a 19.97 and a 20.00 is basically nothing in this type of run (contrast that
to lv01 pacifist).
I remember seeing at least 4 people in VC running this at some point, really
just coordinated masochism executed by lemmings. Terrarienn had the first pacifist run here, but bredd just crushed it.
Cryogenics Map04 UV-Max in 32:58 - crusador
I failed to max this nearly 3 years ago, so it is nice to see it finally done to complete the table. The max is mainly notable for its final fight, which is fairly RNG, definitely a slog of a grind just to get there.
Haste D2All Max in 2:25:00 - crusador
This is another run that I had wanted to see done for a while, and it was on my bucket list to do if nobody else was going to do it, so glad that someone else did it.
